I am panning my 40th birthday party and live in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. I thought I would let you know how I got on and some feedback on what’s around in Dubai.

Hello I’m Karen and have lived here for 15 years, so I have experienced many birthdays and special occasions. As normal my husband has given me a budget which is totally mean and completely unrealistic, but knowing how to impress him, I plan on creating something special and will leave the costs until afterwards, hell never know!!

Many of my close friends are in the 35 to 45 age bracket, many, like me, have been to many Dubai social events, you know the new club, new hotel and new restaurant, normal social gathering in Dubai.

I have met several party organizers and event companies in Dubai but they are all outside my budget, so I am doing this party myself, well the planning of the party.

Having decided on the food and drink I’m starting with mixed cocktails, canopies and then a buffet / BBQ, as the wonderful Dubai climate is just perfect in March.

Now onto the entertainment, no budget for a live band, so I asked around on DJ in Dubai recommendations plus I got onto Google and put in party Dj in Dubai. I met there Dubai based DJs, one girl well she looked like a girl, not good and two male DJs. Let me just say there are plenty of people who say there a DJ, but I only met one that I would place in that category, he was Young Roge., well what a professional and a real charmer!! Umm yes in single life very easy on the eye and a fantastic wicked personality. I recognized Roge soon as he walked into my house. Like so many I have seen Roge perform at the Dubai St Georges Ball and at the annual Angel Appeal High Tea and Jazz afternoon Tea party. My mind was maid up instantly, the music he suggested not only for the cocktail reception but for dancing later was exactly what I wanted, plus his mobile show is a show and not some DJ who tuns up with two CD players and a mixer on a white table cloth.
